21 Reflections of Dostoevsky in Pop-Culture

What is

A letter from the creator of the website.

My name is Katya, a Russian-American student at Parsons School of Design, specializing in web design and branding. I was lucky enough to spend the last semester studying Fyodor Dostoevsky's later works in an elective class called Dostoevsky: Infinite Justice taught by the inimitable Val Vinokur at The New School. It is the second half of a year-long course covering the entirety of Dostoevsky's works (Part 1 Dostoevsky: Insatiable Compassion is under construction, but will be available soon).

My final project began as a series of poems pulled together from snippets of dialogue and thoughts I scribbled down over the course of the semester. (Here is the one surviving poem.)

I was deeply inspired by the ideas expressed throughout the class discussions and wanted to find a way to pay tribute to the poetry of these classes. In the end, I settled on making a blog with the words from the Canvas posts that were posted each week.

It's a small contribution to the vast collection of scholarly literature and insight published on such a great master's work, but I hope through reading some of the responses, you will also agree it is a worthwhile one.

Please use the menu to explore and the contact page as an invitation to submit your work, thoughts and ideas. I would be delighted to hear from you and to feature your work on the site.
